A Magical Halloween Around Buford

A Magical Halloween Around Buford

Hey friends, can you feel it? The air is finally cooler (at least in the mornings!), the pumpkins are out, and the smell of cinnamon candles is creeping through the house. That means one thing… it’s officially spooky season!

Halloween has become one of my favorite traditions. There’s something about the glow of porch lights, the crunch of leaves under tiny feet, and the way kids’ laughter fills the neighborhood that just feels magical. And with kids of our own, I get to recreate that movie-magic kind of night for them right here in and around Buford, Georgia.

We start celebrating early at our house, with all the pumpkins on the porch, spiders on the house, and a steady rotation of “Hocus Pocus” and “Hotel Transylvania” on repeat. My kids pick their costumes weeks in advance (and change their minds at least twice before Halloween night), and we make an entire day of it. Dinner is always the same- grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, and we head out with baskets in hand, hearts full, and energy high.

If you’re looking to make your own magical Halloween memories around Buford, I’ve gathered some of the best local spots and events that will fill your October with fun, treats, and community spirit.

The Best Events for a Movie-Magic Halloween

If you’re looking for that movie-magic Halloween night around Buford, here’s the when + where so you can plan:

1. Boo Fest
(Downtown Lawrenceville, Lawrenceville Lawn | October 24, 2025 • 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM)

Boo Fest is one of my favorites because it feels straight out of a Hallmark Halloween movie. Families in costumes, food trucks, music, and so many community vendors. The kids will love the candy, and you’ll love the small-town charm.

2. Jambo’s Trunk or Treat
(Buford | October 28, 2025 • 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM)

This event is perfect for little ones who want the fun without all the walking. Local businesses decorate their cars and hand out treats from their trunks. It’s festive, safe, and full of energy.

3. Downtown Sugar Hill’s Trick or Treat on West Broad Street
(Sugar Hill | October 25, 2025 • 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM)

This one is a total vibe! The whole street transforms with lights, music, and the friendliest faces. It’s one of those events where you run into familiar neighbors and your kids get to show off their costumes again (because once just isn’t enough!).

4. Rreal Tacos in Sugar Hill

If you go to Sugar Hill, don’t miss Rreal Tacos! The food is always amazing, but their Halloween decor is next level. It’s such a fun stop for dinner or a quick snack before or after trick-or-treating.

The Best Neighborhoods for Trick or Treating on Halloween Night

When October 31 finally arrives, this is where the magic really happens.

1. Greenside Ct, Hamilton Mill (Dacula area)

If your kids love spotting giant inflatables and spooky decorations, this neighborhood is a must. Decorations and golf carts everywhere, the sidewalks fill with families, and you can practically feel the Halloween spirit in the air.

2. Reunion neighborhood, Hoschton

The community is so warm and welcoming, and everyone goes all in with the candy and decorations. It’s that perfect mix of festive and cozy, with plenty of smiles and laughter around every corner.

Little Touches That Make the Night Unforgettable

The truth is, what makes Halloween magical isn’t just where you go. It’s how it feels. It’s those little moments that sneak up on you, like your child running to the next door, glow stick bracelet bouncing, and the sound of their giggle floating through the cool air.

Here are a few small touches that always make our night extra special:

1. Bring glow sticks or light-up wands for safety and fun. They make your kids easy to spot and double as magical accessories.

2. Play your favorite Halloween playlist in car while driving between neighborhoods.

3. Take breaks to soak it all in.

4. And of course, snap a million photos. Someday, you'll look back and realize these were the golden years.

Wrapping Up the Night

After the candy bags are full and the costumes are slightly crooked, we head home, dump everything on the floor, and start sorting through the treats. There’s always a little trading (because no one wants the raisins) and lots of laughter as we end the night with a family movie.

For me, Halloween around Buford is about more than trick-or-treating. It’s about community, creativity, and watching the wonder of childhood unfold right in front of you. Every porch light tells a story, every “thank you” at a doorstep is a moment of connection, and every little giggle makes it all worth it.

So, where are you heading for Halloween this year? If you see us out and about with our candy buckets and our light-up shoes, say hi! 🎃
